The F-8E Crusader is a supersonic fighter aircraft developed and produced by Vought in the United States.
The F-8E Crusader was designed primarily as a carrier based fighter for the United States Navy and was used primarily on aircraft carriers. Its primary role was to provide air cover for naval fleets and conduct aerial interception missions.
The F-8E was one of the first carrier based fighters capable of flying at supersonic speeds without the use of afterburners.
The Crusader was known for its distinctive design, with variable swept wings that could be tilted up or down depending on flight needs. This design allowed the aircraft to have good manoeuverability at low speeds and greater stability at high speeds.
The F-8E was equipped with internal cannons and could carry a variety of air to air missiles and other weapons, making it a versatile fighter.
The F-8E Crusader entered service with the United States Navy in 1957 and was used in several conflicts, including the Vietnam War. During Vietnam, it was used for ground attack and aerial interception missions.
