The Renault 4 CV was unveiled at the first post war Paris Motor Show in October 1946. Designed amidst the bombings and completed in a France still subject to rationing, engineer Ferdinand Picard's ‘one car for everyone’ became the vehicle of regained freedom and a better life. The 4 CV, simultaneously a family car and a city car, a small, robust roadster, simple and inexpensive, became the first French car to be produced in more than one million units: 1,105,547 in a 14 year production run.
