The helicopter carrier Jeanne d'Arc was built at the Brest arsenal between 1959 and 1961 and launched under the provisional name La Resolue. On July 16, 1964, the day of its commissioning, the ship was renamed Jeanne d'Arc. In peacetime, as a training ship for officer cadets, the helicopter carrier Jeanne d'Arc was equipped with an air squadron of two Alouette III helicopters from the Naval Air Arm, reinforced by a combat helicopter command from the French Army Air Service (ALAT), consisting of two Puma or Cougar helicopters and three Gazelle helicopters, with a crew of 40. In wartime, the helicopter carrier's role was to conduct combat missions, either in the area of anti submarine warfare, by carrying eight WG 13 Lynx helicopters, or as part of overseas operations, where ALAT's Puma or Gazelle helicopters were deployed and landing troops were transported. It was decommissioned at the Brest arsenal in the summer of 2010.
