From the 1970s through the 1980s, Group 5 races gained immense popularity with thrilling on track battles between powerful, highly modified vehicles. The Ford Zakspeed Capri Turbo was designed to take on the DRM (German Racing Championship), sporting a low and wide body and powered by a 375hp 1,427cc inline 4 engine. With the body making extensive use of FRP, the car weighed in at a mere 790kg. It debuted in summer 1978 at Hockenheim, and then in October took its maiden victory, winning the sprint race at the Nurburgring.
