The Stuka zu Fuss, officially based on the Sd.Kfz.251/1 Ausf.D, was one of the most visually striking and psychologically impactful weapons fielded by the German Army during World War II. Developed as a mobile rocket artillery platform, it carried wooden frames—known as Wurfrahmen 40—mounted on the sides of the half-track. These frames launched heavy 28 cm or 32 cm rockets originally designed for siege warfare, adapted for rapid battlefield deployment.

Nicknamed Stuka zu Fuss (Stuka on foot) due to the terrifying sound of its rockets, this vehicle played a significant role from 1941 onward, especially on the Eastern Front and later in Normandy. Unlike conventional artillery, the Sd.Kfz.251 Stuka zu Fuss provided infantry units with immediate, short range fire support capable of devastating bunkers, urban strongpoints, and troop concentrations. Its psychological effect was often as valuable as its destructive power.

Mounted on the reliable Sd.Kfz.251 chassis, the Ausf.D variant simplified production while retaining excellent mobility. Though lightly armoured and vulnerable once firing positions were revealed, the Stuka zu Fuss embodied German tactical improvisation—combining mobility, shock effect, and concentrated firepower in a single platform. This kit represents that unique balance between innovation and battlefield necessity, making it a compelling subject for historical modeling.
