The Hawker Tempest Mk. V was one of the most effective British fighter aircraft at the end of World War II. It entered RAF service in 1944 and played a key role in countering German jet fighters as well as V-1 flying bombs. The Tempest Mk. V Series 2 featured improved performance and a strengthened airframe. These aircraft served with, among others, the 3rd, 56th, 80th, 274th, 486th, 501st, and 222nd RAF squadrons during the last months of the war and into the postwar period (until the late 1940s).
