The 1/72 Heller 56272 Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat Starter Kit is a bold plastic model kit of an American Second World War fighter aircraft. You build a powerful carrier based fighter with a rugged appearance and a clear connection to the Pacific War.

The Grumman F6F Hellcat was developed as an evolution of the successful F4F Wildcat. Its design used 18 months of experience from F4F operations in the Pacific and feedback from pilots who had fought in Wildcat aircraft. The Hellcat received a low wing layout, a more stable landing gear arrangement, cockpit armour and increased ammunition capacity, making it better suited to the demanding conditions of carrier operations.

The F6F-5 appeared in the summer of 1943 as an improved version of the F6F-3. This version introduced a new windscreen structure and a completely redesigned engine cowling. It could also carry up to 907 kg of bombs under the fuselage and six ground attack rockets under the wings. With its all metal structure, folding wings and strong armament, the Hellcat became an important American fighter aircraft.
