The CL-215 was the first aircraft designed from the outset for fighting bushfires. It was intended to replace the French and Canadian Canso Catalina amphibious aircraft. After receiving 10 orders from the French ‘Protection Civile and 20 from the Province of Quebec, the Canadian aircraft manufacturer decided to launch its new aircraft on February 1, 1966. The seaplane, which was approved in Canada, France and the USA, could take on up to 1,414 US gallons in just 12 seconds.
